Announcement: The Dalai Lama Graduate Scholarships for 2024-25

Zurich, Switzerland – 6 March 2024

The Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama is delighted to announce “The Dalai Lama Graduate Scholarship” for the academic year 2024/25. This scholarship program is open to all full-time Tibetan graduate students pursuing Master’s or Doctoral degrees in Europe, the Americas, Australia, and Asia (excluding the Indian subcontinent). The online application portal is now live at www.dalailamafoundation.org and will close on April 21, 2024, at 11:59 pm (Zurich: GMT+1). Please note that applications are only accepted online.

Established by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in 2015, the Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama is committed to promoting universal human values, religious harmony, Tibetan culture and ecology, and the revival of ancient Indian knowledge. Additionally, the foundation aims to advance the welfare of the Tibetan people and other individuals in need, regardless of nationality, religion, or origin.

The Scholarship seeks to empower Tibetan human capital and support students of Tibetan origin pursuing graduate studies with the potential to contribute to the well-being of the Tibetan people and the global community. Since its inception, the program has awarded approximately USD 2.5 million to over 200 Tibetan students as supplementary bursaries. Past recipients have enrolled in prestigious universities worldwide, studying diverse subjects, including Microbiology, Pharmacology, Epidemiology, Medical Physics, Environmental Engineering, Developmental Economics, Law, International Education, Clinical Psychology, Business Administration, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, International Affairs, and more.

Applicants must submit official documentation of their acceptance into a graduate degree program at a university or professional school in Europe, the Americas, Australia, or Asia (excluding the Indian subcontinent), along with proof of their Tibetan heritage.

Renewal applicants are required to submit a separate renewal application. Please note that renewal is not automatic. The independent Selection Committee of the Dalai Lama Graduate Scholarship program will review and evaluate all new and renewal applications thoroughly, ensuring transparency in the process. Scholarship renewals are limited to two years per study program. Therefore, students who have received two renewals for their current study program are not eligible for further scholarship renewal.

All information provided in the application must be complete, accurate, and submitted on time. Incomplete applications, as well as submissions after the deadline, will not qualify for consideration. Applicants will receive an email confirmation upon receipt of their application, and the final decisions will be communicated individually after July 6, 2024.
