ABOUT THE SERA MEY TSAWA KHANGTSEN PROJECT
Tsawa Khangtsen is one of 13 khangtsens (meaning ‘college’ or ‘house’) located at Sera Mey Monastic University in Bylakuppe, India. It was one of the branches of Sera Mey Monastery in Tibet. The khangtsen consisted of five hundred monks during the period before the Chinese invasion. Today approximately 120 monks reside and study at Tsawa Khangtsen, with more arriving each year. Each khangtsen represents an area of Tibet, or in the case of foreign monks, a country such as Bhutan or Nepal. The project will have an immediate, profound impact on hundreds of Tibetan children and adolescents by establishing a residential school that will provide:
Sean Brannan, the project’s founder and former executive director, coordinated these efforts upon the advice of Sera Mey Tsawa Khang tsen Woser Rinpoche in conjunction with The Dalai Lama Foundation’s Special Projects. Dalai Lama Foundation The Dalai Lama Foundation has established a direct link with the managers of Tsawa Khangtsen to ensure that 95% of donations are used for the development of the residential school. |
