The DLF 2007 Mailing

The Dalai Lama Foundation“On any given day this world appears to be filled with war and suffering, rooted in seemingly endless cycles of hatred and violence. Yet most of us continue to believe in the fundamental capacity of human beings to develop a sense of compassion and the skills to live together in harmony. Our eyes and hearts are open to the difficulties of the world, and at the same time we know a better world...” Thus begins the October 2007 letter from The Dalai Lama Foundation. Once a year we send both a postal mail and an email reminder to our friends around the world to join with us in our effort to improve the world. The letter describes key initiatives for the next year, 2008, representing only a portion of what we are able to accomplish during a calendar year. Please take the time to read our letter and respond either with a gift to support the work of the Foundation or with an email describing what you are doing in your own world to promote ethics and peace.

The Dalai Lama Foundation exists only through the kindness and generosity of our circle of friends. Thank You! from all of us to our many friends who have contributed their gifts of professional expertise and financial support throughout the year.

We welcome and deeply appreciate your financial support for our ongoing activities to promote ethics and peace. We are set up to receive secure online donations, or you can donate by check. If your contact information email or mailing address has changed in the past year please take a minute to update us with your current information.

Project Happiness Pilot Testing

Project HappinessAs you know by now, our outreach to teens around the world is really important to us! In Nigeria, our study circles affect teens in schools there thru the work of our study circle coordinator. And around the world, study circles are being formed in increasing numbers. Project Happiness for which the Foundation is the vehicle for donations, and to which we provide a large amount of online support, enters a “pilot test” mode this month, with a number of schools joining the original schools in testing both the written materials and new online capabilities. Beginning this month, teens around the world can select video and photos from online services and use them to build their own “portfolios” full of examples of how to better examine their own lives and move toward the creation of lasting happiness for themselves and those around them.

Teachers interested in participating in the pilot test, or in early-2008 testing, should contact Maria Lineger.

The Global Oneness Project

[An article in our series about organizations we hope you’ll find interesting.]

The Global Oneness ProjectThe Global Oneness Project is a video project about living and working from a perspective of Oneness. A living library of short films and interviews created with the intention of expanding people's awareness of what it means to be part of an increasingly globalized world. Through the words and actions of individuals from many countries, the Global Oneness Project encourages humanity to embrace a broader perspective of “oneness,” which includes not only our relationship with the earth, but the relationship and interconnectedness between all things. The director of the project, Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee, was recently interviewed by our CTO (“Sky” Schuyler) on his blog, and we have news from Global Oneness about lots of new video that they've just released.

We have been traveling the world interviewing people and highlighting organizations and projects that show the possibilities for living oneness in our daily lives. To date we have interviewed 80 people in New Zealand, Australia, South America, India, Europe and here in the US, representing human rights and social justice, ecology and agriculture, spirituality and religion, indigenous wisdom and culture, economics, science and art. Together these voices tell the story of what it means to live our greater human potential in an increasingly interconnected world.

“We have begun to build what we're calling a 'living library' of material that we are offering as freely accessible streaming and downloadable video files on our website. Currently we have over 130 videos available, with more in production, all of which are licensed and distributed under the creative commons license.

“And, we have just produced a DVD featuring 10 of our best short films, which we are offering for free under a pay-it-forward model. These videos can be used in communities or classrooms to stimulate dialogue and bring people together around values that remind us we're one human family.” Listen to the complete interview online.
