Founded by Dr. Jane Goodall, Roots & Shoots® is a global program, that engages and inspires youth through community service and service learning, emphasizing the principle that knowledge leads to compassion, which inspires action. All Roots & Shoots groups show care and concern in the human community, animals, and the environment.

Giant Peace Doves Campaign

On the 21st of September, the designated UN Peace Day, Roots & Shoots groups, and others will make, then "fly," giant doves all over the globe. They will be taken to sea in boats, taken up mountains, appear in parks and gardens. They will help people everywhere celebrate the yearning for peace of all peoples of the world. The Roots of Peace Pennies Campaign: Making Change Work, is a ‘children to children’ initiative founded by 16 year-old Kyleigh Kuhn, her mother Heidi Kuhn, and ABC/KGO News Anchor Cheryl Jennings, inspires students to collect spare change to convert former minefields into schools and playgrounds in Afghanistan and other war torn countries.
