GUIDING PRINCIPLES

The core value of the Foundation is a non-dogmatic ethic of compassion, based on the recognition of the desire and right of all beings to be happy. Our activities are guided by the following principles.

1. We are inspired and guided by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
   We honor and serve His Holiness's commitment to serve all beings.
   We strive to bring his ideas and teachings into practice, always seeking his guidance.
   
   
2. We look to serve first.
   We ask, in each situation, "How may we help you?"
   We help in any way we can, knowing that generosity comes full circle.
   
   
3. Be the change you want to create.
   We strive to integrate personal transformation and social change.
   We seek to imbue every activity with opportunities for connection, learning and reflection.
   
   
4. We work for the long term.
   We seek to address the root causes of violence and injustice.
   We are unwilling to impose a solution in a way that does violence to living beings in the process.
   
   
5. Create with others to make possible what is impossible alone.
   We partner and collaborate whenever appropriate.
   We work with and promote the work of other organizations.
   
   
6. We operate in an honest and transparent manner.
   We follow best practices to make financial operations transparent.
   We practice honesty in all communications.
   
   
7. We take personal responsibility.
   We expect and support a high standard of ethics from each other.
   We value authenticity and the courage to speak up.
   
   
8. We honor our individual gifts and the common spirit that connects us.
   We sense that all living beings are connected in a relationship of interdependence.
