Project Happiness, Communicating in Many Ways

As the world becomes increasingly stressful, one issue cuts across all borders, backgrounds, and religions: the quest for lasting happiness. In Project Happiness we’re opening up lines of communication among youth around the world, so they can study and discuss happiness.

Three groups of high school seniors, from schools on three different continents—Mount Madonna School in the U.S., Tibetan Children’s Village in India, and Dominion Heritage Academy in Nigeria—have been exploring the subject, keeping notes and journals.

They eventually had the opportunity to meet one another in India, and to have a conversation with the Dalai Lama about the essence of happiness.

The notes from this yearlong journey were originally posted at the web site of the Santa Cruz Sentinel, and have now been integrated into one unified post at the Project Happiness blog. The story of their year together is also the subject of a documentary film, to be released in 2008.

You can subscribe to Project Happiness podcasts using iTunes and your iPod, or play them in iTunes on your computer without having an iPod. The journey continues as the students are using their insights to develop a student handbook on happiness, to be pilot tested over the next few months in over a dozen schools. And students all over the world will be able to create and post their own video and audio segments to the project’s web site. Shortly after its founding, the Foundation received, as a gift intended to support its programs, the 1966 Land Rover used as a conveyance by His Holiness the Dalai Lama for many years in Dharamsala, India.

This wonderful gift will now be sold or auctioned to raise money to support the Foundation’s programs.

The vehicle is fully operational, right-hand-drive, and has been fully restored to bring it to pristine condition. It is a true collector’s item.
