KIDS FOR PEACE

Kids for PeaceKids For Peace, awarded the 2001 Fete d’Excellence Gold Medallion of Excellence, is a collaborative living arts mural program. Founded in 1995 it is committed to engaging a global perspective as a means to create visual art that reflects a more universal society through distinct cultural contributions worldwide. Gayle Gale, MFA (photo below), founded KFP in Los Angeles with her deeply held belief that peace starts within one person, then goes to the home, the community, and the world

Gayle GaleThrough the program people of all ages and gender come together to create interactive art that is meaningful to both the participants and the viewers. This develops the framework for inter group cooperation and self-expression that is essential for peace. Families and kids have the opportunity to explore the creative process and celebrate their rich ethnic diversity in these free, quality inter-media arts workshops.

Gayle brings to this project her experience in coordinating and directing international large scale community based art activities. She leads the educational arts workshops where murals, mixed-media art and postcards are created. Yoga, videos, music, poetry and dialogue are used to provide inspiration. Gayle is collaborating with Dr. Tammy Shel, integrating into KFP program her studies on the ethics of caring and its value to education, in order to diminish violence and injustice

Numerous workshops and exhibitions of the murals have been held throughout the world with the most prestigious being the Palais Des Nations, Geneve, Switzerland 1999. This mural created by youth in America on four hundred one-foot-square painted wood tiles is currently being stored at the Mission of Israel, Geneva. It is available for exhibition and seeks a permanent home

KFP is currently seeking collaboration with schools and organizations that have a similar purpose. This project is funded by individual donations and grants. Your donation made through the Dalai Lama Foundation will help fund future Kids For Peace workshops and thereby cultivate human beings to become caring creative leaders in any aspect of life in the private and public life.
