Dalai Lama Renaissance is an 80-minute documentary film about 40 of the world's most innovative thinkers who travel to India in the Himalayan Mountains to meet with the Dalai Lama to solve many of the world's problems. Starting this August, the Center is offering an intensive program suitable for those seeking mediator certification and for anyone interested in developing conflict resolution skills and techniques. Mediation and Conflict: Translation and Culture in a Global Context Wednesday 8th of July - Friday 10th of July 2009 Monash University, Melbourne, Australia The 3rd Conference of the International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies will be hosted by the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics. The theme of the conference is: Mediation and Conflict: Translation and Culture in a Global Context. This embraces such topics as globalisation and localisation, cultural translation, intercultural relations and transnational media. The conference will be preceded on 7th July by a workshop on broadcasting in a multilingual and multiplatform digital environment, run by SBS, Australia's multicultural and multilingual public broadcaster. International Debate Education Association (IDEA) is a non-profit international organization working to educate future generations of responsible citizens globally by promoting discussion, youth leadership and participation locally. IDEA promotes youth debate - a method of participation that involves teams of young people learning about important global or local issues and debating them in a friendly manner. This organization will be hosting the International Youth Forum, a two week summer event aimed at bringing 250 high school students and their teachers together to attend debate training sessions and engage in discussions on current issues. Participants from over 30 countries are divided into small groups in order to engage in personalized learning process, which allows for cultural exchange amongst diverse groups of students, teachers and educators. "Human Rights Learning as Peace Education: Pursuing Democracy in a Time of Crisis." Budapest, Hungary IIPE 2009 will explore the theme of Human rights learning and seek to examine the links between economic and political crises at the local, state, regional and global levels and look for ways to address them through education. Accepted applicants will be invited to join the IIPE 2009 inquiry that will identify and assess the social, political and educational structures that pose impediments to the realization of human rights and a culture of peace. IIPE is limited to 65 total participants and applications must be submitted by April 1, 2009 for full consideration. Visit the IIPE website for further details.

Attendees at this event will explore how municipalities and communities can work together in matters of conflict resolution through community and cultural diplomacy. There will also be sessions on economic development, youth, cultural diplomacy, as well as many other topics. Young citizen diplomats from around the world will meet in Belfast, Northern Ireland to learn what it means to be a global citizen in an ever changing world. The conference is open to high school students and recent graduates (between 15-18 years of age). Registration Deadline is the 28th of February, 2009. His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama will have a dialogue on the theme One World, One Mind, One Heart, and on the subject of global responsibilities with selected scientists, political and political personalities. He will also participate in an inter-religious event.

Teachings and Public Conference Lausanne/Prilly, Switzerland 4th and 5th of August, 2009 His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama will give a Medicine Buddha initiation, as well as teachings on the topic "Understanding our mind and the causes of happiness" based on Buddhist Master Je Tsongkhapa's "The three principal aspects of the path". A Long Life Ceremony (Tenshug) will be offered to His Holiness and there will be a public conference on the topic of "World peace through inner peace". This conference will focus on how to learn to overcome the obstacles of our existence by drawing from our inner source of peace. In addition, two lectures will be given in the evening by Sogyal Rinpoche and Chokling Jigme Palden Rinpoche, eminent representatives of the Buddhist tradition. Between Four Eyes is currently seeking Teacher Ambassadors to train in mindful awareness-based educational programs in order to disseminate these techniques in the Middle East and Africa. During 2008-2009, individuals with a minimum of a Bachelors Degree, United States citizenship and full-time residency in the United States can qualify for TA candidacy. Courses will include techniques for peacebuilding and conflict resolution among people of diverse cultural, historical, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
